Catskill Pond Lilies
Over the last three decades of his life, the great impressionist artist Claude Monet painted some 250 stunning images of water lilies from his garden in northern France. Monet was a genius with oil paints, and I am a humble watercolorist. Yet I’ve dreamed for years of capturing a bit of his lily magic. Alas, my many attempts at painting Catskill water lilies end in crumpled throwaways. (Depicting the curled leaves is tricky!) Finally, I found an obliging subject, at a pond filled with lilies and Koi fish not far from Delhi, New York. Merci, Monsieur Monet. Framed original 16.5″ W x 10.5″ H $426
Upstream at Tom Hoag Road
This painting is another in my series of nature scenes that struck my fancy along the steep dead-end road where I walk near my home outside Delhi, New York. I have been drawn in again and again by the narrow stream that tumbles down, down, down before splashing into the Little Delaware River, destined ultimately for the Cannonsville Reservoir, which helps supply New York City’s drinking water. I’m captivated by the twists and turns in this little stream as it carves its way between rocks. Original Watercolor 23.75″ Wide x 19.25″ High $840
Almost Home – The Little Delaware at Bovina
This view stopped me in my car many times before I finally stopped to take photos for this painting. My brother came up with the perfect title. I loved the stream but it was the farm in the distance that drew me into the scene.

Stone Cold
This old Dutch barn prompted me to hit the brakes and pull out my camera. Friends joke that I’ve painted every old barn in my home county in the Catskills, so I had to travel an hour east to Kingston, New York, to find this one. It’s along U.S. Route 9, which parallels the Hudson River from New York City to the border south of Montreal. The barn and its stone house have stood the test of time; to me, they hearken back to the old Dutch patroons who were predominant along the Hudson. It was teeth-chattering cold on the day I stopped to gawk. Maybe that’s why the cow looks angry? Original Watercolor 18.75″ X 12.25″ $450 framed, print $130
Skunk Hollow Porch
For years I have driven past this porch of my way to hunting camp. The original owner must have loved this house to put so much detail into woodwork. It had to be magnificent in it’s day. It has now been purchased and renovations are under way.

Fly Fishing God
My friend Bill was giving this name by another fisherman due to his obvious talents. I was talked into going on this fishing trip to Pulaski where the salmon run up the stream in the fall to spawn. It truly was amazing to see 3 feet long fish leap out of the water right next to you.

Poetry in Motion
There truly is an art to fly fishing. After sending several of my cast into trees and other obstacles I sat back and watched Bill show me how it’s done.

Victorian Turrets
This stunning house and garden begged to be painted. It is one of several regal, century-old mansions on Main Street in Delhi, New York. I love how the Hollyhocks mimic the building’s spiked turret. I had a little fun with the painting, too. Can you spot anything unusual in one of the upper windows?
